I need some help with configuring system with very weird memory configuration.
My target is to have 70GB+ above setup but with most cost efficient way. Based on manual, my closest setup will be 128GB with 8x 16GB memory. However, this is excessive amount of memory that I don't need.
Closest configuration that I could think will be 96GB with 6x 16GB memory. Based on manual, I think I can put 6 of same sized memory (since manual says 6x 32GB supported)
But still, 96GB is still excessive amount of memory in my usuage.
So I am wondering If I can put 4x of 16GB and 2x of 8GB or 4GB This way I can configure 72GB or 80GB of memory which is ideal for me. Im not sure the system supports 4GB module but 8GB module for sure.
Alternative way will be putting 2x 32GB and 2x 8GB which will also result 80GB but 32GB module is much expensive
Can someone please help me with configuring the system thats close to minimun 70GB of memory?
Below is the memory configurations for your system.
Memory specifications Features Specifications Type DDR4 ECC RDIMMs - Supported only with Xeon W Series CPUs DDR4 Non-ECC UDIMMs supported with Core X Series CPUs Speed 2666 MHz (Discontinued on system configurations purchased after October 2020) 2933 MHz 3200 MHz
NOTE: 2933 MHz RDIMMs are not offered with Xenon W Skylake Series CPUs.
NOTE: Computer configurations offered with 2933 MHz RDIMMs operating with Sky Lake processors will operate at 2666 MHz.
NOTE: Computer configurations offered with 3200 MHz RDIMMs operating with Cascade Lake processors will operate at 2933 MHz. Connectors 8 DIMM Slots DIMM capacities 32 GB per slot 2666 MHz DDR4 64 GB per slot 2933 MHz DDR4 64 GB per slot 3200 MHz DDR4 Minimum memory 8 GB (1x8 GB) Maximum memory 384 GB for Sky Lake Series CPUs 768 GB for Cascade Lake Series CPUs
NOTE: The memory speed depends on the CPU in the system.
It is possible, but it is not recommended because many restrictions will apply. the most obvious is that larger modules will be partially excluded from multichannel interleaving, or 4-channel interleaving may be disabled. I am not sure how it is on Dell boards. Ideally, all modules should be equal, desirably from the same batch with consecutive serial numbers.
So, 128Gb for you is the optimal size, intended for growth of software requirements in the next few years.

This geekbench shows 80GB memory with 4 Channel.
I think this is 2x32GB + 2x8GB right?
