T5810 CPU Upgrade - Is it worth it?

Hello,

I have a T5810 Workstation.

Edition Windows 10 Pro
Device name Dell-Precision-Tower-5810
Processor Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-1620 v3 @ 3.50GHz 3.50 GHz
Installed RAM 48.0 GB
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Is it worth it to upgrade the CPU or just buy a new $1500 desktop?

Thanks,

Jameson

    Hello,

it always depends on how much you would spend to upgrade the cpu

There is no easy answer for this. You just saying, about model, CPU, and RAM - nothing else. Not mentioning about your needs. If you have a feeling, this T5810 is not fast enough for you, you may consider to upgrade - but, depends of what you are doing, answer may vary.

If you have system on HDD, would be good idea to upgrade to SSD. If you playing games, it may be a good idea to consider change GPU for something better.

    @Jameson1023

    Intel® Xeon® processor E5-1600, v3 E5-2600 v3
    Manufacturer Dell Inc.
    Model 0HHV7N 5810
    Southbridge Model X99
    Intel Xeon E5-2690 v3 @ 2.60GHz  $40 seems reasonable compared to $1500

Depending on what you are working on a GPU may be better performance for your over $1000 investment aka  Quadro-RTX-4000.

Absolutely. I have a T3610 that had an E5-1620 V2 and I replaced it with a E5-2667 v2. You should be able to replace your CPU with another E5 V3 Xeon, they come with many different core counts, even 18 https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/series/78583/intel-xeon-processor-e5-v3-family.html
