I have an older version of this laptop that has a Nvidia Quadro K3100M and an i7-4910MQ. I’m wanting to upgrade my gpu but I would like some assistance. I was thinking maybe a gtx 1080 but I don’t think my computer can handle it without a motherboard upgrade. I could use some help.
Works using modded drivers: Quadro M3000M Quadro M4000M Quadro M5000M Geforce GTX 980M 8GB
Should work if your M6800 has an IPS screen and modded drivers Quadro P3000 Quadro P4000 Quadro P5000
On a personal note... I am not a big fan of the heatsink setup in the Precision M6800. Unlike all of the other 17" Precision laptops in recent history, the GPU is only cooled by one of the two cooling fans in the system.
I also have an M6800, but with the AMD FirePro M6100. I'm looking to upgrade to the K4100M. Would I need anything else other than the Nvidia heatsink to replace it?
