Doublecheck to make sure you have the correct cartridge part number.  Check the new cartridge installation and make sure you removed the protective tab.  If this is a new Dell cartridge contact Dell for a warranty replacement or if you bought it locally return it for replacement. 

 

There is an IC chip internally in the ink cartridge and if it's not reporting or not reporting correctly it could cause the problem you see. 

 

If this is not a new Dell cartridge it is probably either the wrong one or defective.
