Currently the printer Prints and copies but does not scan.
Just for more completeness, here is more information:
- I have removed the color cartridge as - despite this being a NEW DELL cartridge I have nothing but issues with it despite following all the FAQs in how to get it to work. Having said that I can print, so this is just an annoyance.
- I have followed all the items on the scan error message i.e. pull plug out, turn on-off, test USB connect, etc.
- since it prints, I deduce - corrrectly I believe - that the printer is connected.
- I have de-installed all the software and re-installed the latest version: http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=PRN_ALL_A962&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
re-install went relatively well and I can print and copy.
- I have tried manual override on the scan and do it from the printer. But that has not had any result.
Having now spent a day on it, I give up. Any thoughts?
How are you connected to the printer? wired of wireless?
If wired, disconnect your printer. Go to start/programs/Dell printers and un-install your printer.
Restart your computer.
Now go to drivers and downloads/select product/printers/select your printer.
Install your printer. You'll be prompted when to connect it.
If wireless, fix your network first.
Update the firmware in your wireless router. Manufacturer's website, make & Model needed.
Broadcast SSID(You may want to change this to make it easier to connect)
Use WPA security
After router is done, now setup your wireless print server/printer.
If wireless printer server is used, Plug USB cable into computer and print server. Insert the print server disk. Choose Network, then choose print server and follow the instructions.
Now setup the printer.
Now go to drivers and downloads/select product/printers/select your printer.
Install your printer. Choose Network. Install the drivers.
Lately, most people connect the printer before the program has the drivers. Windows then installs the wrong drivers. When you install the printer, you're removing the wrong drivers but rebooting is necessary. Going to Drivers and downloads and getting the correct drivers helps. Some are installing XP drivers the are using Vista.
As for the wireless part, WEP can be hacked. WPA security is strong. Channels 1, 6 or 11 are the channel the most devices, like wireless adapters, xBox and all the other items wrk the best on.
thank you for that advice. I will try that immediately, but what do you mean exactly by uninstall you printer? And reinstall. Will this be the all-in-one suite or just some drivers?
