Just to let you know, I received an email today from a SENIOR Tech @ Dell. While I have not yet tried it, the idea is to download the USB drivers. Sounds a whole lot better than reformatting a hard drive! And in the same message, he says there then might be some issue with the motherboard ports and a need to be rplaced if the download doesn't work. Maybe I got someone with some sense!
Best regards to those that are rooting for me especially Dan.
Sorry, I just found this message. It's a new thread, that's why I didn't see it. Anyway, I'd have to ask how you did your USB driver reload.
Before I go any further, I'd suggest a couple other things:
1. I'd ask if any other devices work on your system, but you said that the AIO's scanner works fine. You also said that your system can find the printer. Is it possible that it isn't set as the default printer? Here's a fix for that (just in case it's really that simple): Start, Control Panel, Printers and Faxes. Right-click on the printer driver. Choose "Set as Default Printer". Now try to print again. (If it has a checkmark on the printer icon and you can't see "Set as Default Printer", it already is the default printer.)
On reloading the USB drivers:
1. Disconnect ALL cables from the computer's USB ports. 2. Right-click on My Computer. 3. Choose properties. 4. Click the "Hardware tab" (You're on XP, right?) 5. Click the Device Manager button. 6. Click the plus sign beside "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". 7. Delete everything under that category by right-clicking on it and choosing "uninstall". 8. Restart your computer. It should automatically find the USB stuff back, but in case it doesn't, go to Control Panel and choose Add New Hardware and scan for it.
Finally after all that, connect ONLY the AIO to a usb port, and if XP doesn't detect it inside of 5 seconds, pull the plug and try another port. You don't need to reboot between plugging and unplugging the AIO into a USB port.
There's my current ideas... But do me a favor and click "Reply" on this message when you've tried this stuff. Otherwise it might be several days before I find your message. (Dell will email me if you reply to this, and you'll get a much quicker response from me.)
Dan49534 - Followed your "on reloading USB drivers" routine but got the same results: "incorrect port detected" - even used a different port. My problem began w/ trying to print a wordperfect document on the a920 and a dialog box said "Preparing Document" but then nothing happened. Then the "incorrect . . . " popped up. Dell tech chat resulted in nada before being closed out. Still waiting for tech email reply - suggested 30 minutes is now approaching 2 hrs. I, of course, just today mailed off my 1st painment. The a920 problem seems to be a widespread. What is the solution?
Your message describes some of the same printing problems I am experiencing with dell's A920.
I have sent 18 emails to dell support, and tried each and every suggestion dell's 1st tier 'telephone answerers' directed, and none of them worked. I can't get them to read the entireehail history before giving another duplicative 'recommendation. I have repeatedly asked to speak to a 2nd tierapplication tech, and this has not been done. How do I make this contact?
Briefly, my dell A920 prints the wrong/incomplete information when I try to print a test page, but both black and color catrridges do print.
When I try to print a copy of anything else, from any source, the page is blank.
If you dave any further suggestions, I await your message with anticipation. Thank you for your consideratio,
TAKE YOUR A920. PUT IT UNDER YOUR RIGHT ARM. OPEN YOUR CAR DOOR WITH THE LEFT HAND. PUT THE A920 IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. DRIVE TO THE NEAREST BODY OF WATER. GET OUT OF THE CAR , PUT THE A920 BACK UNDER YOUR ARM. WALK (RUN IF YOU CAN) TO THE SHORE LINE. NOW PITCH THAT PIECE OF JUNK AS FAR AS YOU CAN AND WATCH IT SAIL TO INDIA . GET ANOTHER DECENT PRINTER AND REMAIN A CALM, SANE HUMAN BEING!
