AIO 962 - Systray icon missing
Had the printer for 2 years. Most of the time it has behaved itself, and most of the time, there was an icon in the system tray associated with it, which if you Exited, disabled scan. After a series of weirdnesses, such as a phantom printer installing itself out of nowhere (usb deciding it was a new one?), I managed to revert to having one printer properly reinstalled. BUT - no systray icon for whatever program, so I can no longer scan using the AIO centre. Can use the camera and scanner wizard, but that is not what I want to do, and not what I paid for. Can ANYONE tell me how to re-enable scan? I am sure it is a startup issue, but I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer 5 or 6 times in the the past few days and I'm getting bored with it!

Hmmm, think you have misunderstood me. It's not wireless or NIC card connected, its a USB connection and shared with others in the household using File & Printer sharing. No problem with that, and we are happy to scan from the one PC. But scanning now a hassle, as explained before, as for whatever reason the scan/printer (support?) icon is not longer present - I assume therefore it has not been loaded to run at start-up by the installation, for whatever reason. That's all I am interested in; we have a wireless connection for a PC upstairs, but that is neither here or there with regard to this problem, which to my mind Dell should fix. Set to sharing, always has been. Offline printing unchecked. I am convinced that this relates to the start up program which puts an icon in the system tray. I no longer have it, and I am pretty sure the problem started when it disappeared after a re-install.- My 964 doesn't have a system tray icon or anything like that that starts at startup.This program will show you what you can enable and disabkle at startup. Maybe you can find it in this program.

Got it many thanks. Here's what I've lodged with Dell support on-line. Error message ------------- Dell Photo AIO 962 All-In-one Center Scan was not successful Try these solutions - Make sure the All-In-One is powered on. - Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable - Disconnect and reconnect the All-In-One's power cable - Restart your computer Description of problem --------------------- Preview/Scan does not work from AIO Center or from Printer menu. Does however using MS Camera and Scanner wizard, so clearly it is a software setup error. Worked fine for ages, then when for whatever reason I had to reinstall the printer drivers, it has been a persistent problem, which I have previously resolved using the Dell Printer driver cleanup tool. However, I cannot get it to scan at all now from the printer or Dell software. It's not fixed, I've just handed it on to Dell Support. What I do know is that I no longer have the systray icon, which if I right-clicked on it amongst other options which I can't remember, said "Exit - Disables Scan button on printer". Using that never prevented the icon from re-appearing at the next boot, but as noted that on longer happens. Nothing to do with wireless connections, the network or anything, this is clearly an error that can occur in the installation process
