AllIn One Printer A960 Fax prlobems HELP PLEASE

When ever my telephone rings, if I have the printer on, the fax answers.  How do  I get it to stop? Also, How do I fix it so that if I am on the phone,  and need to print a document, I can use the printer without interference?

call your local telco and ask for the service of the distinctive ring. then set your printer settings for the distinctive ring and also set the no# of rings for your printer and the answering machine.

I've been struggling with this for months.  I couldn't receive faxes unless I was here to do it manually.  Otherwise it would answer all my calls, even if I programmed it to answer only when it hears a fax tone.  I finally spoke to a Dell Support Tech who knew the answer.  The answering machine has to be plugged in to the back of the A960 (see Pg. 12 in the Owner's Manual for the A960).  Connect your phone line from the A960 to the wall jack.  Then program the A960 to answer when it hears a fax tone.  If you have a DSL phone line, you must use filters between the answering machine and the printer, and between the printer and the wall jack.  Good luck, and "Thank You" Dell for finally solving my problem.
