Dell A940 All-In-One Printer (W7)

I tried installing the Vista-64 bit drivers and it kept asking me to put in a disk I don't have. I am on Windows 7 and going crazy trying to get this printer to work. It worked before but was having troubles. I didn't know what else to do so decided to uninstall then re-install to see if that helped but now I can't seem to re-install it.

    Imzadi83,

Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system?

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

    Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed.
    Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista
Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Links to the patch/drivers can be found in the first thread at

    Dell A940 All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

    Rick,

I have not reently installed/reinstalled the operating system. I ran the delete print jobs. The printer is already disconnected and I have installed and ran the patch and restarted. The printer is removed. I downloaded the correct Vista driver for my system.  I also turned of my anti-virus and firewalls for good measure. I still cannot get the driver to install however. I ran it in multiple compatability modes but keep getting the following error....a pop up window tells me "This self-extracting zip file is part of a multidisk zip file. Please insert the last disk of the set." Then when I cancel out of that (because I can do nothing else) I get an error msg with an error code 190.

    Imzadi83,

I split your thread off the owners thread.

Can you please provide the virus program and firewall you're using.

    • Download the System Information Tool If using Vista/Windows 7, the tool needs extracted. Once extracted, right click on sysinfo and run as administrator.

If using XP, double click on the tool, then double click on sysinfo.

Allow this past your virus program and post the information back here.
