I bought the Dell V305W printer on Saturday for only £24.99 as it was ex display and old stock. Plugged it in installed it fine with the USB carried out a test print.

However on attempting to connect it to my home wireless network with a BT homehub3 I came across problems....

Initially it did not like the security key I entered and stated that it was not a valid WPA key and had to be over 8 Characters long, my key was 10 characters however I thought I would change it anyway. This appeared to work the wireless symbol went blue however it still stated that the connection had failed.

I tried all sorts including the classic use recommended wireless settings, uninstalling drivers, rebooting, resetting the wireless adapter on the printer, downloading the correct drivers etc..... as kept being stated by Rick in all the threads I had read.

I eventually got there in the end though and thought I would share it with anyone who still has the patience with this printer:

1 - Reset the wireless adapter on the printer to clear any settings that may be on there.

2 - Uninstall all of the drivers, reboot and ensure that the correct drivers are downloaded from the Dell site. then carry out the installation up to the point where the printer is attached with a USB cable

3 - Browse your wireless access point's IP address and disable all security settings. 

4 - Re connect to your wireless network then select your wireless access point through the wizard and the printer should connect this time.

5 - view the printers IP address on the Display by going to SETUP>NETWORK SETUP>TCP/IP MENU>VIEW IP ADDRESS note down this address

6 - press the menu back arrow to go to the TCP/IP menu then select ENABLE DHCP and set this to NO

7 - Browse to the printers IP address as discovered in step 5 then click on CONFIGURATION then WIRELESS

8 - Change the wireless security mode so it reflects the settings on the router (in its original state) and ensure the key is entered. I change my key so it was a bit longer so is now 20 characters

9 - Browse to wireless access points IP address again and re apply the correct security settings (mine is set to WPA2/WPA) ensure to input the correct 20 character wireless key as was entered in step 8

10 - Reconnect your Laptop to the Wireless network and you should find that when trying to connect through the Dell wireless setup utility this time it will succeed! 

Im not sure exactly what resolved the issue but this is how I got it to work. My IP address is now set to 169.254.1.20 not sure why and im not sure of the implications of this I believe this is an APIPA address
