Thanks for your help...I just reinstalled the printer for about the 5th time now...working fine from what I can tell.  On a side note...any way to turn off COMPLETELY the eco/power saving mode?  It really eats up the ink...or maybe that's Dell's goal.

I guess I don't understand.  In the past I have had to install a separate program for scanning.  Now almost all programs have an import feature which should allow it to see the scanner, make choices as to options for scanning, and scan the document in the that selected programs format...Adobe Acrobat (PDF), Picasa (JPEG).  And when I first installed the scanner this seemed to be the way it worked.  Since then these programs no longer see the scanner as attached...and yes the printer is on, connecting with wifi just fine and also able to print just fine.

To answer your question though...No specific OCR stand alone software and yes, Acrobat is on the application list.  I would just like more scanning options than the front of the AIO gives me.

On my printer disk, I thing it has Sprint FineReader.

 

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

 

I opened it and registered it. Tell it was from the printer and it might allow an updated version.

 

My Dell V715w Wireless Printer allows me to turn Eco Mode on and off at the printer. I have mine on all the time. We rareley print except during the school year. I print an occasional resturaunt coupon to keep the ink flowing.

I have a problem related to this discussion.   I can scan from my computer using the ABBY FineReader 6.0 Sprint Plus app that came on the printer sw disc.  I cannot however originate a scan job from the V515W AIO device.  The device is unable to download the list of applications.  I have uninstalled and re-installed the Sprint Plus app, but no luck getting the AIO to see it.  I figure my problem is not with the app as much as it may be with my network, although the AIO, my network and all attached computers have been playing well together (printing) so far.  Today is the first time I have attempted to scan pics.

Any thoughts? 

I have a Dell XPS M1730 running WinVista 64bit Home Ultimate (primary system), another XPS M1730 running Win7SP1 (secondary) and my significant other insists on using her Macbook (Mac OS version ??).  Side note, after some extended effort, we were finally able to get the Mac working with the AIO print function after downloading drivers from LexMark.  Her Mac would not recognize (or unzip) mac files providd with  the Dell printer sw disc.  Less concerned about the mac at this point, really focusing on understanding why the V515w AIO wont recognize scanning sw living on the Win Vista and Win7 machines.

I saw that link earlier.  I think the AIO Print Center App did not load correctly.   I had to install/re-install numerous times before  I could get the printer / computers to work properly over the network.  I am hesitant to unistall everything and re-install out of fear I lose all of my network connectivity/functionlity between the AIO and three computers.  The Mac was a tough one to get to work.

The shortcut that the install leaves on my desktop goes to nothing.  Error message says something to the effect the file/app cannot be found.  I manually drug the users manual from the disc to my desktop.  In a similar fashion, while following the discussion above,  uninstalled/re-installed the sprint app. Now,  I get an AIO Print Center that contains fax/scan info, but certainly not the multiple tabs/advanced settings options that are described in the link you provide above.  Suppose I will unistall/re-install everything and start over from scratch.  Ugh.  I had hoped MSoft would have this sort of stuff worked out by now.

Any further suggestions are appreciated.  Really not looking forward to resetting my network.  Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

Dell V515w Wireless All In One Printer - (RED) owners thread  (Mac Driver) (Alternate Mac Driver Instructions and drivers used)

 

Do you have The Dell All-In-One Center, Dell Imaging Toolbox or Dell Printer Home installed on the computer(s)? I have used the Dell All-In-One Center and Dell Printer Home. Not sure which application comes with this printer. Not sure about the Mac installation at all, I'm a Windows person. Tried Ubuntu once could not figure out the commands and gave up.

 

Which computer(s) are you trying to scan from? Scanning wirelessly from the printer is used with the Dell All-In-One Center but Dell Printer Home offers you to scan from the computer. Connected with the USB Cable, then you have to scan from the application.

 

Hopefully you have the printer on your wireless network using the wireless adapter. Enable Bidirectional Support/Enable Biodirectional Support is important. Firewalls and virus programs are the biggest problem with printer communications.
