On a Photo 966, I've installed a new colour cartridge, but am not getting colour, even on a Print a Test Page. But if I Clean Ink Cartidges that does produce the correct colour bands. The 2 cylinders showing the ink levels show full, but when you Test Print, the colour one shows empty with a left arrow pointing to the black cylinder. Is it some setting? i've tried checked and un-checked complete a print, no difference.

Complete-A-Print usually will ask, when low on ink, if you want to use the other cartridge to complete a print job and remains checked until the cartridge is replaced. I have see it still checked after it was replaces.
Becuase you have been running all these jobs through, try running Delete Print Jobs and restart the computer. If that doesn't solve the print once problem, then try reinstalling the printer using the instructions in the ABOVE THREAD.

You can copy a document under the glass? Black and white and color?
Are you using Dell Series 7 ink cartridges?
Did you try...
Unplug the printer from the wall. Also remove the power brick for 60 seconds. This will reset any error messages you get from the printer. Plug everything back in and power on the printer. Take out the Dell Series 7 black cartridge and reseat it. Put it back in and do the same for the Dell Series 7 color cartridge. When you close the printer it should try to print an alignment page. Any error messages?
Dell Series 7 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.
Dell Series 7 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It's possible the sensor went bad in the ink cartridge. Take it back to the place of purchase for a replacement.

Your computer come with Windows 7 or was it upgraded? 32-bit or 64-bit?
Try reinstalling the printer using the instructions below...
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.
Try these tweaks...
Start, control panel, device manager.
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your computer.

The Complete-a-print 2nd checkbox was ticked. Unticked it, and it works perfect now. Thanks a million!
I had misunderstood what that box meant - I thought it meant print in B&W using the B&W cartridge if the Colour one is out, not always.
The other issue - only prints once then needs a re-boot - I'll raise under a new topic. NB: Tried the USB Port Power-Save, but to no effect.

Start, control panel, devices and printers, your printer, printer preferences. Make sure the box is unchecked print in black and white.
Also click on advanced, more options and make sure the Complete-A Print boxes are unchecked.
