wanting to use old hp deskjet 612c with my new inspiron 531 but I keep getting error, any ideas.

Disconnect your printer. Un-install your printer.
Restart your computer.
Download the latest drivers for the hp deskjet 612c from here.
Install the drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer.
