I'm trying to position powerpoint slides as W2007 figures, in a fashion that was called "in-line" in Word 2003. In the older version when you inserted a PPT slide as an object, it was by default in-line, meaning that if you inserted text above it, the figure would move downward accordingly in the document. In-line does not do that in W2007, in fact, it makes the figure invisible and you know it's there only by clicking on the frame (accidently in my case -- but you still can't see the figure itself).

 

The closest approximation to "in-line" seems to be the "top and bottom" positioning choice, which at least shows you the figure. But it doesn't put the figure at the insertion point, and it does not let you move it to the desired point.

 

In general, all my attempts to put figures where I want them in W2007 result in unpleasant surprises. E.g., unlike W2003, you can't select a figure and choose "keep with next" in order to keep the caption below the figure and on the same page -- possibly because a figure does not seem to be a paragraph at all.

 

I can't find any general information about handling figures on the MS help site, and the few pages that claim to provide directions on how to get W2003 functionality on W2007 don't seem to show anything useful on any topic at all.

 

Any help or pointers?
