MS Excel problem

I just received a MS Excel spreadsheet in an email and now my MS Excel does a weird thing.  When I click on a cell, it acts as though I am holding down the left mouse button and won't let me do anything else.  It's like I'm trying to select a range of cells.  I can't even quit the program.  Only Ctrl/Alt/Delete will get me out.  This is now happening on all my spreadsheets.

Help!!!!!

Does the Status bar show "EXT"?  If so, you have the "extend"? function on; just press F8 to toggle it off.

Thanks for the reply.  I ended up re-booting my machine (should have done that earlier!!) and the problem went away.  I tried your solution though and it didn't replicate my problem.  With extend on, it takes 2 clicks to select a range.  The problem I had was it was like I was holding the left button down because wherever I went on the screen, the cursor acted like it was trying to select a range.  For example when I scrolled up to the menu bar, it would not let me access any drop down menus or even the minimize or off buttons.

    Thanks,
