Dell 3100MP HDTV
I have a 3100MP projector that accepts DVI from my cable box. Cable box is putting out HD signal.
Message on screen says "MODE NOT SUPPORTED". Specs say that projector can accept HDTV.
Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem may be??

did u order the bulb from Dell? $370 seems like a good deal. I have a friend that will know how to fix your problem. I'll ask him and let you know.- Update!I found a settings menu in my cable box (Cablevision) to test each of the possible resolutions (480p, 480i, 720, 1080i, etc.)The settings allow me to scan through each one and i wait to see if an image is displayed through the 3100MP projector.The only resolutions that worked were 480 standard and 480 widescreen!! Both 720 and 1080 produce a "MODE NOT SUPPORTED" message.What a piece of garbage!! And I just wasted about $370 on a new bulb too! Oh well, back to S-Video unless someone has got a way to fix the problem.I am wondering if I should connect the DVI connetion on the projector to the RGB connections on the cable box instead of going directly from DVI to DVI. Maybe that might help.

Did you go into the OSD and change the input to HDTV? Probably did, so don't yell at me.. just trying to help.The 3100MP does support 720p and 1080i but only through the component connectors/signals. The DVI input of the 3100MP only supports up to 1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz.
On this model, the DVI input is not designed to be used for HD video - just for computer graphics. Since the pixel array of the DMD is only 1024 x 768 (XGA) anyway, there is not much point in sending higher res graphics to the projector thru DVI.
If you want to run 720p and 1080i, you'll have to use the component cable that came with the projector. It has the std VGA (15pin D-Sub) connector on one end (connect that to the projector) and the other end has 3 RCA style connectors - those go to the DVD player or cable STB.
But don't try to use 720p or 1080i unless the content you're viewing is actually HD content. Otherwise, you are just introducing more scaling errors.
- I recently bought a 3100 from Dell on sale (not realsing that they were about to be taken off the market). Anyway to get the best possible resolution I sought out and bought a component cable M1-DA to RCA, however I get NO signal in this mode from a standard definition DVD player...could someone please help
