My NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD Drive for my Windows XP system.....is my problem.
I have always been able to burn CD's and DVD+R then all of a sudden last week for no apparent reason it stopped recognizing DVD's??
My husband downloading a current driver...which allowed our burner program to burn DVD's, but it still will not read them at all? It just says that the drive is not accessible when there is a DVD in it.
Let's try reloading the drive first. Go to device manager, expand CD/DVD drives and right click your DVD burner and select Uninstall. Also go to IDE controllers and uninstall the secondary IDE channel. Then reboot and they will both be reinstalled.
If that does not help, try booting to safe mode (F8 on bootup) and see if you are able to read a DVD disc contents in My Computer.
check the device manager if the DVD/CD has any exclamation mark or question mark on it... that will indicate if there might be a sifware related issue.
you can also try and go to my computer(for XP) and computer(for vista). see if you can see your CD/DVD ROM devices at that location.
Also go to IDE controllers and uninstall the secondary IDE channel.
Thank you for your advice....before we do anything what is an IDE controller?? and a secondary IDE channel?? How would we uninstall these??
Will we have problems restarting our computer if we uninstall the CD/DVD?
Thanks!
It's the part of the hardware that allows the CD drive to communicate with the rest of the computer. This will not create reinstallation problems. The operating system will simply reinstall the components.
oziantonio, Osprey4 already had katg1006 looking in Device Manager, that was covered before you barged in. There is no need to go down the same road twice, Osprey4 has it under control.
Thanks so much for your help before...I hope you will be able to help us again? We are throughly frustrated now....and at a loss...
We did what you said and it worked fabulously for 2 weeks....until now. All of a sudden it is not recognizing the DVD's again. We have unstalled and reinstalled........updated the drivers....and still nothing. We even tried it in safemode, but it would not recognize or allow us access to the drive.
When we unstall/reinstall and then update the driver....we can see that the correct Driver is listed. When we put in a DVD it recognizes that it's a DVD Rom but it changes the name of the drive from "DVD/CD-RW Drive" a "CD Drive". Can you help us?
