Error code 7 on Dell 4600 HD diag. Drive replacement?

What's the code 7 mean?

The drive has been acting funny for 6 month now. Boots sometimes other times it won't. Runs slow and now has been coming up with the missing ntoskrnl.exe file and some others. I need to get a copy of XP home and a new drive. My thinking is that I will try to restore xp with the new system and see if it is indeed just missing some boot files, but everything I have read tells me I will need a new drive.

Anyway, code 7?

"Error Code 7" is an internal drive, self test failure code. Therefore, the hard drive has indeed failed or is failing and must be replaced.

If your system is under warranty, contact Dell about a replacement and give the Techie the error code.
