Hard Drive Upgrade
I have a Dimension 4400, pentium 4 1.6Ghz, 640 DDR RAM, 20gig hard drive @5400
I was wondering if I should go with a serial ATA since i heard they are faster if it is compatible or a EIDE..i found one that im looking at here http://www.pricewatch.com/d/1674.htm Would this be a good hard drive to buy? thank you

The D/4400 motherboard does not support SATA, unless you add a SATA PCI card. Personally I would use a EIDE 7200rpm hard drive in your system, this would be faster than the 5400rpm drive.

you could go serial, will have to get a pci serial adapter, don,t believe the 4400 has serial controllers on it. then on your next computer, probably will have serial contrllers on it, and then you can sell your pci serial adapter on ebay
at the moment , there is no speed differecne , about the same. the serial drives today , except for maybe one, are not true serial drives, they have a bridge built into em.
if you want a fast drive, consider western digital raptor drives, 10,000 rpm

The Western Digital JB series are good hard drives, I've been using two 80GB JBs in my D/4550 for a year, without any problems. Remember to buy a 80 wire x 18" Ultra ribbon cable to use with this drive, as the hard drive shown in your link seems to be OEM, if it's a retail boxed drive, then cable is included.
