I/O Device Error Message **Please Help**
My cd rom drive does not appear to be working properly. I am trying to instal a game for my kids and when I put the disk in the rom it will either say there is no disk in there or it will give me this error message....D:/ is not accessible, the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. I dont know what this means. If I put in, say, a disc with pictures that have been copied on it, it reads it fine. I really hope there is someone out there who might be able to walk me through fixing this problem. Thanks in advance for your time!

Hi April,
This is Sonic`s Packet Writing progam for formating rewritable media, you are not uninstalling it, simply removing it from Start-up.

Hi I tried the first thing, I went to my computer and right clicked on drive d and choose properties. There was no dla tab.
So I tried the second thing and unistalled my _NEC NR 7800A drive and then rebooted. When it booted back up it said new hardware installed..the _NEC NR 7800A drive and it gave me an icon in the startup menu on the bottom right hand of the screen next to the clock that says DirectCD (drive D:),unlocked. Not sure what that is, but it still wont show that I have a disk in there.
I went to the third link and there were no red or yellow ! or anything so I uninstalled the second ida channel and rebooted. When it booted back un all it said was new hardware found and what it is but it still doesn't work.
Ugh! I'm frusterated and my kids are getting anxious...got the new Zoo Tycoon and they can't play it.
Got anymore ideas?

Hi April,
It seems you do not have Sonic but Roxio`s software since you mentioned Direct CD.
Lets try Clearing the NVRAM, if this does not help, then the next step would be the Dell firmware update for your drive.

Hi Jeff,
I have a dim4300 so I tried to clear the nvram by entering the bios setup and then I lit up all the lock lights and pressed alt+e,alt +f,alt+b after which it beeped and said it was reconfiguring then it restarted...but to no avail my rom still is not working. I'm not sure if my pc was shipped before or after July 1997, I'm assuming after but I'm not sure what else to try from this article, I assume the next one but I can't figure out how to get it into maitenance mode and if it has a jumper or what that even is. I went to the Dell site and d/l the tell me how file that was supposed to be in my pc when i got it but I couldn't find it and that didn't help at all.

I figured out that my cd rom will read burned cd's but not regular cd's and that it will read burned pictures. I don't know if that means anything but....April337

Hi I've been super busy and haven't had a chance to get back to working on this but I'm ready to try again. I went to the Roxio upgrade site but they want like $80 to get the upgrade and I don't really use the Roxio Easy Cd Creator that much so I don't really want to pay for it. Is there anything else I can do? Also I was wondering if you might know why it is that I can put a cd that has something burned onto it in my cd/rom and it reads it fine but it won't read a regular cd?

We have seen a number of problems with game installs related to Sonic`s DLA program. If you happen to have, please consider disabling it; click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 13-0, article 12.
If this does not help, same CD/RW link, Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3.
