I use WinXP, SP3 on my Dell GX620. This came with an Optiarc DVD+-RW ND-3570A optical drive as Drive E. Within the past year, whenever I start with a blank CD-R or RW disc and make this a data disc to back up files, the transfer of files goes fine. However, when everything has been completed and I open the drive tray to remove the disc, this action causes the computer to crash with the blue screen. This crash will also occur once I restart the computer, insert the disk (if an RW) and do anything with any file such as delete, or add a file. Just reading the file causes no problem. This occurs whether using CD or DVD's.

I have tried the backup procedure several ways. I used the standard WinXP simply transferring the data to the disc after which I right click on the drive and click on "Write the files to disc". It proceeds to do this and then crash.

I have also tried the Roxio program to create a Data disc first by formatting the blank disk with DLA format. The same crash occurs when the door opens or attempting to delete or transfer a file.

I have done CHKDSK  and SCANNOW with results showing nothing unusual.

I know the drive itself is OK, since I have slideshow authoring programs which I use to burn the shows onto DVD. This complete process occurs without incident.

Any suggestions?
