RAID - Basic FAQs
RAID Basic FAQs
I have got some questions when it comes to troubleshooting RAID on Dimension and Inspiron desktops:
Q1.) Imagine a situation where a Dimension / Inspiron desktop is on RAID1 and getting the message "RAID VOLUME DEGRADED" . To me , if the system can boot up to windows we shall first of all need to get into the RAID BIOS ( Ctrl + i) on POST and check if the member drive is in red and degraded or not. If yes , then we need to run the 32 bit DIAGS custom test on the member drive and if we do not see any hardware failure during the test and if it says "All tests passed" then we get into windows , open INtel Matrix Storage Manager , right click on the degraded drive( will be marked in red as well) and hit Mark as normal. It will then start the rebuilding process.
My question is what if the system does not boot into windows, how would i be able to accomplish the same if the hardware DIAGS on the drive passes and we need to rebuild the RAID without data loss ?
Q.2) I would like to know the same for a system with RAID 0 and undergoing the same situation .
