OM IT Assis. Discovery

After installing and completing a discovery, 95percent of the servers are listed as "Unknown". About 80percent have the OM server software installed. I also took a server that OM was not installed and installed it but the discovery still shows it as "Unknown". Any assistance would be great!

Thanks,
Jeff

Which version of IT Assistant is installed on your Management Station?

Which version of OpenManage Server Administrator(OMSA) is installed on your Managed Systems?

Which Operating System is on your Managed Systems(where OMSA is installed)?

Is the SNMP service installed on the Management Station and all Managed Systems?

Are all of them using the same Community Name?

Are all of the managed systems allowing SNMP packets from the Management Station?

From this I'm assuming that Server Management software or Client Instrumentation (I have both server and desktops showing up unknown) has to be on the device for IT Assistant to figure out what it is?  Seems it would be simple enough the do from SNMP.  Even though I can't manage them from IT Assistant, I'd like my HP boxes to show up in the right place.

Or I could go the other way and use OpenView!

Your're out of luck on the HP boxes.  If SNMP is setup on the HP boxes, they will report to the ITA, but if they are not instrumented with OMSA from Dell, ITA will not recognize it.  Therefore, even if HP boxes show up on ITA; it will be "unknown" to ITA just because it's not a Dell box.

Note:  consider replacing the HP with Dell> :smileyvery-happy:

    Couple things to consider:

    1. You may want to upgrade to the latest System Management software. (Openmanage7 & SA 4.4)

    2. Consider updating the BIOS, ESM & PERC on the client server before re-installing Openmanage.

    3. Make sure SNMP traps & community name are setup correctly on the ITA & client server
