Please list all your problems bugs and faults with your streak here so I can raise these issues with John Thode on Wednesday 15th September and finally get some real answers.
No flash, if this tablet is supposed to be an iPhone beater then it needs flash support for web interaction.
I've also had instances where it won't charge from a PC usb connection.
Disabling the front facing camera also seems random in the extreme.
Different options for the keyboard would be very welcome, let us choose our preferred setup.
I'm also concerned about the build quality, the plastic at the phone speaker is already showing cracks and the plastic on that panel seems loose beside the bottom left corner of the screen. This is a big issue when you sign up to a 2 year contract!
Thank you for helping in listing the known bugs and a few I had not found yet. I am sure others have had even more problems than listed. Just keep them coming and I will bring them to Dell's attention Wednesday.
Although after my letter I am pretty sure all forums are being monitored closely by the Dell Streaks product manager and Dell staff are are madly playing with the streak to replicate and discover any more faults.
Not sure why they decided to fo for some shiney cheap plastic on the front bezel, it does kind of detract from its eshetics and the solid look of the device. Also while I love the size of the screen its a finger print magnet and not the clearest in daylight.
Fingerprint resistant glass exists for mobile devices just a pity it was not incorporated in the device. along with a quality speaker. Sound reproduction is no better than a disposable mobile phone.
Hardware aside our main problem is the 2.1 firmware attempt ( Attempt is used lightly as they did not quite succed on first go)
I only bought my Streak on Sept 2nd so hadn't had a chance to try everything before the upgrade and can't be sure if all of the problems I have are due to that. And I wasn't used to the old keyboard (my first touch one) which seems to be a blessing... the 'L/Delete' issue does seem to be a matter of accurate thumbing for instance
However...
1) Moving shortcuts around the home screen is a risky operation. You have to practically push your finger through it to get them to highlight and then they are reluctant to move and you either get a sim card error notification or the whole thing shuts down and you have to take the back off and start again. sometimes I've had to plug it in before I can get and response at all
2) My laptop fails to recognise the device driver software when I plug it in. I don't even get as far as the Dell PC Suite but I assume this essentially the same as you guys who could synch in the past but can't now?
It's a lot of money for something that doesn't work isn't it?
posted in the 2.1 problems thread but reposted here for viewing:
current problems i have noted from my upgrade from 1.6 -> 2.1
- lost WMV support
- MP3's stutter when background data is enabled and a email is downloading.
- going from recently added to albums in music is slow, jerky
- regular unfixable crashes / screen freezes. have to remove battery to reset
- irregular crash where pressing home button when on homepage causes vibrate to engage constantly, have to remove battery to reset
- all contacts lost
- all games that were installed to SD have also been lost
- volume controls are reversed in landscape mode
- music does not stop when headphones are moved whilst music is playing
- battery lifetime seems considerably shorter
- Screen can be unresponsive when locked - often when there is nothing on the screen
- Albums start playing backwards - ususally when playing is started in music player then return to home page with player there.
Question that I would like raised - was the update checked before it was released?! surely a test would have highlighted some of the above problems users are experiencing. When we run updates to the databases at work we spend upwards of 2 hours checking and rechecking before rolling it out to all users. Someone seems to have dropped the ball on this one. But the part that really gives me the beef is there is no public statement that I can find anywhere regarding this. Dell seems to have gone with the "lalala im not listening" approach, not exactly professional.
