HiJackThis log

Computer's acting up, not letting me change the home page, opening new windows the wrong size, not letting user log off, and acting sluggish etc. Also getting warnings from the fire wall.

Thanks,
Lars

I see no signs of a working Anti virus program in your log

    Plese go
    here and Download AVG free

Install it and run a full scan

When complete, re run Hijackthis and post a fresh log

    Thanks bamajim

    Well done

Please print out these instructions for reference so they will be easier to follow

First We need to make sure we can see hidden files and folders

    • Click Start.
      Click My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
      Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
      Click Yes to confirm.
Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
      Click OK.

    Next Please download the Killbox.
Save it to the desktop (But do not run it yet).

Next Open Taskmanger (RT click a blank area on your toolbar->>Taskmanager)

Locate the following in running processes

    676fccd.exe

    Hilite->>Rt Click->>End Task

    Close Taskmanger

    Hi bamajim.
As far as I can tell it's running the way it used to, possibly a bit slower due to the new antivirus program.  Task manager is available again, home page as well, logging off works perfectly again.
I think you've cured my computer! Thanks alot!

Just one minor thing to fix

Re run Hijackthis (scan only) ->> Place a check beside the following entry

    • R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Close all other open windows except Hijackthis and Select "Fix checked"

    Reboot your pc.

I appreciate your patience in working through this. :smileyhappy:

Now that your log is clean

    There are some final notes:
    Disable and Enable System Restore.

Now that your system is clean, lets create a clean System Restore point
    the instructions are here

    Update your Java

You are currently running an older version, which has some security issues the newer version is here

    Once you've downloaded and installed the newer version;
Go to Add/remove programs and uninstall all other previous versions.
The only one that should remain is the newest version

Make your Internet Explorer more secure
This can be done by following these simple instructions:

    • Open Internet Explorer click Tools->> Options.
      Click Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
      Click Custom Level.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
When all these settings have been made, click OK.
If it prompts you to save the settings, press Yes.
Next press Apply and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page

    Update your Anti Virus Software

Use and maintain a Firewall such as ZoneAlarm

The Windows Firewall is good at blocking incoming threats, but not outgoing threats such as "Backdoor Trojans"
    Some others are
    Sygate
    And
    Sunbelt personal
    All of which are free

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently for critical updates

Backup your Documents and Files and a regular basis

To a disc or a USB key, not your Hardrive
