UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

whenever i turn my computer on i get this error screen.

i saw there was a forum about this before, but is there anyone who can explain how to fix this in the simplest possible terms.  i am not used to playing around with computers, and a lot of the solutions are lost on me.

THANKS!

i also have no issue with completely rebooting my computer, since everything is backed up, and there are some programs i wouldn't mind losing at all.  help with this would be good too.

This appears to not be a virus or spyware issue. You might check on the general hardware forum. A search of Google brought up several interesting links that gives more explanation about this message:

    Hi,

This is actually a hard drive related problem and not a Virus or Spyware issue. You would have got a blue screen and perhaps a stop code of 0x000000ED. Its possible that the hard drive may have failed but I would suggest to post it under the hardware category for desktops/laptops depending on the system you have. If your system is within warranty then please call dell's technical support. They will run diags on the system and should ideally replace the hard drive if found faulty.
