Understanding Block and Object implementation

Good Morning,

I think the File/Object services in the VNX are provided by the data mover/control station. I am trying to understand specifically what each of these does in those implementations. Is there a good white paper or article somewhere that explains these?

Thanks,

Shawn

    Hi,

    file services (NFS/CIFS/ftp) are done by the data movers.

    control staton is only there for management and monitoring

    block (FC/ISCSI) is done by the storage processors

    not sure what you mean with object

    I would suggest to start with the VNX Family White paper - available from emc.com or support.emc.com.

    Thanks for the reply. Do the Data Movers mount a LUN In order to provide their service layer? Is an iSCSI/FC connection a dependency for those services or do they/could they have their own independent disk?

    By object I mean this -> https://www.emc.com/storage/atmos/atmos.htm#!details

    Thanks,

    Shawn
