Hi people, I've some dubt about the hot spare configuration on vnx. This is a picture from a vnx5600 that show some warning:
And here is the unbound disk on the same vnx:
I've one FAST VP unbound disk, the only where i'm not protected is on flare disk and fast cache disk ( they are configured in mirror 1/0 ). So, my question is:is my array protected ? why it shows these warning? Thanks!
As per recommendations SAS 300GB has 32 disks for that you need have 2 hot spares but you have configured only one disk
400GB SAS FLASH has 2 disks you need to configure one hot spare but you don't have spare for that. So totally you need to configure 2 hot spares, one for SAS and one for NL-SAS.
Note: you have unbound disks not hot spare's. Need configure as Hot Spare.
Thanks for your reply but still I don't understand.
So I've 2 warning. The fist one is related to SAS 268 GB, on the VNX we've 32 disks ( of this type ) but four of these are the VAULT disk ( They don't need hot spare ), so the number of disk are 28, and the policy is respected ( 1 for 30 disk ).
The other warning is on SAS Flash VP ( 366 GB ). Total number of disk on my system are 10. I've used 9 disk on a RAID5 8+1 and 1 is unbound, so the policy are met, why I still show the warning?
So, The first pictures show that I've only 2 Flash VP disk, but it's not true.
As
I've 2 disk for fast cache ( 100 GB size ), configured as RAID1. I've no hot spare for fast cache, I know but VNX doesn't show any alert for this, VNX show warning for the other type of disk ( Flash VP 366 GB ) and, as I said before I've 10 disk. ) 9 are into a RAID5 8+1 and 1 is unbound.
For the other SAS I'm changing the Raccomanded Hot Spare to 1 for 32 disk, just to remove the warning.

The problem is solved restarting the management server.
Now I can see the right policy for FAST VP disk. Of course I need one disk for Fast Cache type!
Thanks to all!
