Looking to configure the VNX 5200 for the first time, but I'm having some issues getting the EMC VNX Installation Assistant to see the array on the network. I have the VNX plugged into the the network, where DHCP is indeed running. So it should grab an IP without any issues.
During the initialization Control Station Settings, I get an error stating VNX not found Event code: 15301345298.
I've configured all the control stations accordingly, to the network the VNX sits on.
I'm running EMC VIA version 8.1.0
Has anybody come across this issue? I was thinking to reboot the VNX, but looks like it would be a hard reboot. So I'm a little hesitant, unless I could reboot through the serial connector, that connects to the VNX with the micro port with a picture of a wrench. I'm thinking that's the maintenance backdoor.
I thought it might pick-up an IP that way, so my mistake. I've already verified the cabling and firewall ect... and I'm still unable to get the VIA to see the VNX. I've now connected a crossover cable, and I still can't get it to find the array.
Is there a default subnet the VNX is configured for?
for a new VNX5200, there is no default subnet, you could try to connect to the control station via the serial port and check if you can see the waiting for the VIA...you will perhaps need to restart the CS.
I can't even get console access. I'm using the following: port settings are 115200 baud, Data Bits 8, Stop Bits 1, Parity None, Flow Control hardware.
I think I need to reboot the system, but being that I don't have access the only way would be to bring it down hard, which is unplugging the power cables. Is this correct? I don't want to damage the array, but I'm left with no other options.
I confirmed the terminal settings as you listed and no go. I went ahead and rebooted the CS hard and I still can't connect. I've contacted EMC twice about having somebody assist, and I still can't get somebody to call me back, email me, or come on-site. I just get to the front people regarding the tickets, they update the notes and that's as far as I get.
Also, why are all my posts getting moderated? It makes the response times greater than 8 hours for each post. I don't understand why legitimate questions are getting flagged. I read another post about this, and it was because it was tripping spam settings.
Are all my posts going to be like this? Makes troubleshooting and learning on here very difficult, and short lived. I hope that can be lifted.
So the picture you attached, that's not what mine looks like. I'm connecting directly to the VNX array on the serial port with a wrench symbol. The other serial connector looks like a battery symbol.
I won't be getting a call back, as it has been denied for support. They want to charge be an on-site PS engagement which is an additional cost that I can't get approved. I'm on my own on this one.

VNX does NOT use DHCP to assign an IP address
On a system fresh from the factory it will listen on the network for broadcasts and wait for VIA to configure it
Please use the knowledgebase on support.emc.com common VIA install problems (cabling, firewall, …)
