Auto-hide taskbar, Windows XP Pro

I have "Auto-hide the taskbar" and "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows" checked.  The taskbar does not hide.  I'm running XP Pro with all Microsoft updates added.  Anybody ever have the same problem?

    Thanks, Robert, for the quick response.  While looking for security programs I removed "Security Plus" (recently added) from the taskbar and auto-hide now works.  Amazing!

    Um, maybe try turning off any anti-virus or anti-spyware programs like Microsoft AntiSpyware.
     
    Does the dialog with all the settings in it seem to hang or show the busy icon for a long time once clicking OK or Apply?
     
    Also please give any details of any settings programs like Fresh Devices' Fresh UI which can stop settings from being changed.
