Automatic Updates

Two questions:

1.)  Should I allow my XP Home to automatically install updates?

2.)  If so, How do I set it to do so?  When I go to set it for automatic update, the option is greyed out and will not allow me to set it.  Also, the XP Security Center cannot set it to automatic either?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi:

    1) I'm sure this is controversial, but I personally do not allow automatic installation of updates, as occasionally I have seeen problems with this. I do however configure Security Center to notify me when updates are available.

    2) As to that greyed-out option, there is some info on that here.

I'm a little more controversial. I haven't configured Security Center to notify me. I receive my notifications via email. You can sign up for this service here..

I am less controversial, I use automatic update on all my PCs, never had a problem.

I only install the ones labeled "critical" I installed and ran Belarc Avisor which takes a look at your computrr and identifies missing critical updates that you should go for. I do not install the monthly Microsoft rollups I want to see what is inside them. I had a November roll up  clobber a computer with windows 20000 Pro on it. The latest Microsoft method is to issue monthly a rollup containding several security updates.
