Cannot Delete File
I am running windows XP and I cannot delete a file I recieve the error message " cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk". The file is empty any ideas how to remove, right clicking and delete does not work.
I have the same problem as escdoc88 on 9-30-2002 (above problem)
Error Message: Cannot delete file: Cannot Read from the source file or disk.
I read your reply and went to the file you suggested but I do not have the knowledge I need to complete the task. You said to use the command prompt to delete files. I went to the command prompt but could not come up with the file. Also I do not understand the /x switch command. Is there some place else that explain this more elementary . I do not what to delete a wrong file.

The name of the file is C:\Documents and Setting\MyName\MyDocuments\My Pictures\Photo Class
It is a folder I made to store my Picture for my photography class. The properties state no file name, no open with , no bytes. It just a folder with nothing in it . But it will not let me Delete it. The folder was established with the New folder command. I do not now what happen.

Right click on it and choose properties, then uncheck Read Only and try to delete it then.1771

Read Only was not check. I tryed checking it to delete . Did not work either way

The file maybe in use by another program. Try renaming the file and then rebooting. Can you delete the renamed file?

Have you tried Redwolfe's tip to use the removeonreboot tool? This is the way that install progs update things which is why you often get the message to reboot to complete installation.

I have not download the Move On Boot download yet . I am unfamiliar with the Webattack.com download site and I was try to find out more information on the site to make sure it was a save site to download from. Have you used this site before . Is it save.

u can try System Restore to date before u created folder, to get creation date use Search folder name , Right click ,select Properties >General.

What is the name of the file and what is the full path to its location (C:\Folder\Subfolder, etc.)?
