Inspiron 2500 - switch on and up comes "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
windows\system\config\system
..start windows setup using Cd originsal setup CD-ROM select r"
I have the oririginal set up and XP disc but when inserted and switch on and press F2 I get the Phoenix BJOS Setup utility but I am not sure if this is from the CD or the hard drive and there is no mention of "r"
Any help appreciated.

You should not press F2, just reboot with the cd in the drive and see if it boots to the cd. You will see "press any key to boot to xp disk" if it works. If it doesn't boot to the cd, you need to reboot and enter the bios by pressing F2. The bios-also called Setup-- is from the computer, not the cd. You use that to put the cd drive first in the boot order ahead of the hard drive, save it by pressing F10 and reboot with the xp cd in the drive. You will boot to the xp cd after that.
