Hi, i need to know if I get rid of msn as my internet provider if I will be able to read all the saved -e-mail that has been imported to outlook express on my computer. I currently use msn but I also open outlook express and all mail is downloaded to it also. Msn is my default e-mail program. Outlook express is also connected through msn as http mail because there is no pop server access up here. I want to switch to a local internet provider. I am really tiered of Msn constantly downloading things to my computer and making changes that I do not want. Lately zone alarm has been showing that msn is running in background. The connection is cmpglobalvista 112.2o7.net. While this is running (doing what i do not know) anything i do on the net such as reading this forum is slowed down to a crawl. (I have dial-up, live in the sticks of Maine).Msn is almost constantly updating ,upgrading programs in the background which as I said makes using the computer a real drag. Thank you for any imput you may have.

Great ,Thanks Denny. The folders are on harddrive.The inbox says (httpoe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.comcgi-binhmd ata.Inbox.dbx).This is one of many folders of mail. With this additional info is your answer still the same?Just want to be sure before I cancel msn. Thanks again

That is the most convoluted name for an OE file I have ever seen. I would have expected Inbox.dbx, Drafts.dbx, Outbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx, and so forth. Having never had any experience with MSN I have no idea whether it has inserted all that garbage into the pointers to your data. The name of each of those folders can be changed to the standard name but doing so is rather cumbersome. If each of the *.dbx folders has that prefix I can't say for certain that you will be able to access your saved mails without renaming the folders. As long as those files are larger than the default size for an empty OE "folder" (which is 59K) the data is on the hard drive.

I do have the folders inbox dbx-outbox dbx-sentbox dbx,etc, as you would expect. However these boxes are all 59k.The ones with the long prefix-dbx from msn are the ones that actually contain the e-mails.You suggest renaming them. Would this be done by right clicking to rename and just losing the msn prefixes? Or maybe I could just drag and drop them to the corresponding oe folders that are empty. Which do you think would most likley have the desired outcome? If the email is in Outlook Express folders on your hard disk it will be available regardless of which ISP you use.
