Error - IE- referenced memory

I keep getting an error message on Internet Explorer saying:

The instruction at "0x7c9106c3" referenced memory at "0x0186ddfe". The memory could not be "written".
It then shuts down IE.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

I have two machines now with this issue.  One is using IE 7, while the other is using IE 6.x.  The error pops up when IE is closed...  Both units are the Latitude D430.  I think both have 2GB of RAM...

Disabling add-ons, virus protection, etc., had no effect.  Uninstalling and reinstalling IE had no effect.  Maybe a BIOS upgrade will correct it??

Are you using the D430, by chance?

I am running an Inspiron E1405. I started using Mozilla Firefox and the problem isn't evident that way, but it still bugs me that it's lurking in the background.

Here's something interesting...  I noticed that when I ran IE (7) without the add-ons, used a blank page (I did not navigate to any site/page), and then closed IE...I wouldn't get the error.

Also, if I ran IE (without the add-ons) and opened a locally stored HTML file, IE would close without incident.

But, if I ran IE (without the add-ons) and then navigated to a page on the Internet (this could be ANY page), and closed out, I would get the error msg...no questions asked.

So, it would appear to have something to do with IE's navigation process...  The other reason I say this is because I disabled nearly all of the add-ons manually, and it had no effect = error!

I should try running IE normally (with a blank home page) and seeing what it does when I close out...

FYI:  I tried a number of other suggestions/ideas (such as:  updating the Bios, changing the Page Transitions option, etc.), to no avail.

No, I wish I had.  I recently ran into this again, but with a different model!  It was a new install and it started giving me the error message with a 3rd-party application we use.  I removed the app and re-installed to no avail.  I must have triggered something, but I can't imagine what!?  I haven't had the opportunity to get back to that machine to investigate...

I have not yet solved this problem either, though I have been using primarily Firefox. Every once in a while I use IE to see if it still happens. Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't give that error message. Uuugh!

We threw in the towel on these laptops and ran a complete reinstall.  Not the way I wanted to go about it, but you can only spend so much time & energy on such an issue.

The error has yet to return, I'm pleased to say.

Now I'm fighting with Windows Update, on a Dell running Vista (SP1), and will post this basket of joy in the appropriate place...
