error message

I have a Dell Deminsions 8200 with MS XP 2002 sp2,Pentium 4 2 ghz 1.99 GHz 256 MB ram. The last couple of days it has started coming up with an error when i click on a desktop icon, or try to access the explorer window by right clicking on the start button. For example it comes up with this message for explorer: Explorer.exe application error,  then it says the following message:

The instruction at "Ox10012013" reference memory at "OxO2f85d25". The memory could not be read. Then at the bottom is has debug or close. Can someone please tell me what is going on.
Thanks

    TootsUSA,
Click on Start|Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Event Viewer.  Click on plus sign beside Application in left pane.  Right click on events in right pane that have a Red X or Yellow !.  Left click on that event's Properties.  Should give some information relating to faulting application and module.
Let us know what you find.

found lots of errors in all three catagories in admin. tools.  under event viewer there are several catagories, here is one under winlogon: faulting application explorer.exe. version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module shell 32dll, version 6.0.2900.2869 fault address 0x000454b3.

also for microsoft outlook error 1603 but it went into more detail. Is there a way that i can copy the code and paste it. I have tried several ways and nothing works.

    TootsUSA,

Click Start|Run.  Type sfc /scannow.  Press Enter.  This will verify that all of your system files are the correct version.  You may need your Windows XP CD so have it ready.

I assume you've already scanned your hard drive for bugs with up-to-date antivirus and antispyware programs.  Winlogon is a critical process of XP.  However, there is a trojan called winlogon that allows a hacker access to your system and critical data.  If you don't already have Windows Defender (Beta 2), I recommend you download, install and scan your system.

yes have scanned with Norton System works and spybot, supercleaner, and system cleaner and nothing was found. The sfc / scannow came up real quick and then went away. i will get  Windows Defender now and try that.

    thanks

Good.  Lots of luck.  Let us know if problem re-occurs.
