File Duplication Problem

In saving files to my hard drive, I typically save them to the "My Documents" directory.  Microsoft automatically saves a duplicate file to the user "Joe's Documents" directory.  I don't need both and a file deleted from one directory is deleted from the other.  I think I need to delete the user account/directory but haven't figured out how.  Can anyone help?

Don't delete the account. Windows is only showing you who owns the file.  My documents is the current owners folder. Under Explorer it will show both. When you click on My Documents on the desktop, you are basically opening the folder under the current account user.  My Documents that is at the top of the file tree is merely a shortcut to the folder listed under the user account folder.

Simply put, "My Documents" just points back to the user account.

And those are not actual duplicates. Both listings point to the same single file.
