frequent lockups
Brand new Vostro A860 with Vista Home Basic: first time I turned it on it locked up as it was setting up Windows.Since then there have been several lockups when waking up or powering up from a shutdown. I use the shut down option from the start menu. Today it locked up to the extent that the power button wouldn't turn it off; had to unplug it and remove the battery. Not sure if this is a software or hardware problem. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi siwasher, I can't help with the lockups, but the next time it does, press Ctrl Alt Delete all at the same time and then let go. It should close windows and open a window that will give several choices, click the one that saids to "shut down". This is a much safer way to shut down your computer then with the power button. Hope this will at least help you out until someone comes along that might can help you with the lockups.
