Check that IE is registered as your default browser. IE/ Tools/Internet Options/Programs tab/check the box "IE should check whether it is the default browser" Then OK. Next time you boot you should be asked if you want IE to be the default browser. Click Yes.
If that does not help Go to Start - Run, and type each line below separately pressing OK after each one

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
Note: you should see a brief message after each entry that the dll has been successfully registered.
Now reboot and test IE
