installing win xp on win 7 in dell n5010

hi frnds...here is the solved problem to install win xp on win 7 without formatting win 7 in dell n5010

Solution

1) Download nlite software & install it
http://www.nliteos.com/download.html

2) Download SATA Driver from this link
http://ftp.us.dell.com/SATA/R254174.exe

After downloading ---> right click on R254174.exe file--->select "Extract to

R254174/" (Note : You can use winrar to extract the files)

3) Place the "Windows xp" cd in the drive.

4) Open nlite application---> click on "Browse" and navigate it to your cd drive

that contains xp cd placed in that drive. ----> then it asks you where to save the

files ----> just navigate to your desired location ---> click on "New Folder" button

and select that folder --->click on OK---> Now it copies the windows xp files. After

that click on Next--->Next.

5) In task selection --->Click on "Drivers" and "Bootable ISO" options -->click on

"Next"

6) Now click on "Insert" ---> click on "Multiple Folder"----> Navigate to the driver's

extracted location and select the folder "f6flpy-x86" ---->Click on "All" button--->

----->Click on "OK"--->in "Text mode integration options", Select all the 5 drivers

and click on OK--->Click on "Next".

7) Click on "Yes" to start the process. Then click on "Next".

8) In "Mode" option select your choice whether you want to make image or burn

it to cd.

9) If you want to make ISO file then click on "Make ISO" button

10) After burning this slipstream xp, now try to install it.

Good luck.

That will install the OS but you will have to find all the rest of the necessary drivers for the system. And since Dell doesn not support XP on this system you are on your own to find them if they exist at all. Without the proper drivers your hardware will not fully function correctly

    Hi Sreekar,

I have Dell 5010 Core i5 and I have made the slipstream cd as per your above advise but unable to load xp in the laptop. It give error message in the middle of the instalation with blue screne. Do I have to format my drive? I already have 3 partition in my drive. I want to remove win 7 and load xp first and later win 7.

    Please help.

What bluescreen "stop code" does it give you?  Do you also have an N5010 (IMPORTANT!)?  Is SATA/AHCI on in the BIOS (it should be on)?

Yes, you should have selected Format (full or quick is fine), and you should be installing to an EMPTY partition (previously labeled Unpartitioned Space).

If you are dual-booting and doing XP first, then hit C during Setup to Create partition of 10GB (or however large you think you will need XP's C: drive), leaving the rest of the disk unpartitioned.

Installing any OS will damage your ability to use the Recovery Partition, so you might as well delete it now.
