The small company I work for just fired the computer consultant. Guess whos job is to take care of the computers now? I know a lot about hardware and software but not about administration. The main reason why they fired the consultant is because he failed to lockdown win xp pro. I need to become and expert on this issue as soon as possible because our users like to install all kind of stuff from the internet and open all kinds of email attachments.
Any tips from the admins out there would be greatly appreciated.
We have a network of about 20 dell desktops. We have a win 2k server in member mode I'm told.
You also should get agreement with your management as to what's exactly meant by "lockdown". Without an "Acceptable Use Policy" that's been agreed to by management and presented to all employees, it's very easy to get trapped in the middle of disputes about what traffic and access should and shouldn't be allowed on a company network.
