Norton Anti Virus 2005 Installation Problem

Hi, I was trying to install Norton Anti Virus 2005 on my wifes brand new Dell 8600 Inspiron laptop computer. She has winxp sp2 home edition. It all was going ok until about the middle of the program, it came up with an error saying that it could not write to the "SoftKey". It left me with 3 choices, and that was to abort, retry, or ignore. I tried several times to retry and then each time it said the install Failed". So finally I just gave up, and told it to cancel. When I told it to cancel, and look liked it was removing files that it temprary installed. This is the first program I am attempting to install on her computer.

If this is any help, before trying to install the Norton, I removed the built in McAfee program that came with her laptop. I followed instructions from a previous post, and it seemed that the removal was successful.

I really need to install Norton, now that there is no anti virus program on it at all, The only protection right now is her wireless router firewall.

Any help is sure appreciated.

Joe

Oh, I did post this same question on the section that says "other software", but I did not get any responses, and hopefully, I can get some help here as you always do.

Did you remove all notices that McAfee was installed on the system? Go to the McAfee site and make sure that you follow the instructions for removal of this software so that you can install the Norton. You may need to search the registry for McAfee tags
