OS won't boot
I had a power cut the other day which forced my computer to turn off and on several times with which something seems to have gone wrong seeing as I get stuck on a screen that's black and have a mouse cursor in the middle, at this point I would like to point out that until I remove my graphics card and optical drive I don't get the F2,F5, F12 options Anywho I ran the diagnostic test and everything came back clean, no issues however it says I need to reseat the hard drive, I have done this bit there is no issue with it, I believe there is a corrupted file that's preventing my computer from starting. When I purchased my Alienware x51 I was told that I would get a windows 7 home premium 64 bit boot disc I didn't actually get this in the packaging, and now I am stuck with an expensive paperweight

I tried this suggestion but I keep getting the error message saying
this version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of wondows you are trying to repair. try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of windows

If you used a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit .iso and are repairing Window s7 Home Premium 64 Bit it should be compatible.

I have been using the same one, turns out buried in my box I did have the cd for install even that won't repair it

Download a Windows 7 .iso from Digital River and create a bootable USB:

Try Reinstalling Windows see here:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/
In your case don't format or delete partitions or use DBAN if you want to keep you files (they will be in a Windows.old folder).
You might also want to carry this procedure out before Windows installation to backup your data:
