Originally I was getting a ccApp error message whenever I shut down my machine. I was told to install Advanced System Optimizer to correct the problem. During that install I was instructed to insert my windows disc so that the microsoft windows recovery console could be installed.
Now, whenever I reboot or startup my computer I have a black and white screen that askes me which operating system to start: Windows XP Professional or Microsoft Windows Recovery Console!
Can you PLEASE help me get rid of that screen? Did I do something wrong with what I installed? After all that work, I STILL HAVE THE CCAPP error message whenever I shut down my machine.
The process CC App (ccApp.exe) stands for "common client application" and is used in conjunction with a number of Symantec Norton programs, such as Norton AntiSpam or Norton Antivirus.
Symantec's web site has directions on how to get rid of this error.
You can find them here.
As for your other issue:
1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
-or-
Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
2. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
3. Under the default operating system drop down, select Windows XP.
4. set the time to display list of operating systems to 1 second.
5. Click Ok.
THank you so much for your help. I will try all you've suggested. I really appreciate your knowledge and the thoroughness of your reply and instructions.
Thank you so much again. It's very comforting to know there are nice people like you out there to help those of us with so much less technical knowledge.
I followed all of your instructions - and restarted the computer. I did NOT get the ccApp on shutdown - but I did get CiceroUIWNDFrame. Ever see that one before?
Also, the b/w window flashes by in 1 sec now. Thank you for fixing that. I was afraid I installed something I shouldn't have!
I have one more question (other than the Cicero above). I'm running a Dell Inspiron 600D laptop whihc should run fast - it runs very slow. In task manager I notice that in processes svchost.exe is always running 7 times. Could that be part of the issue?
Thank you again, and sorry about the previous double posting. I look forward to hearing from you.
CiceroUIWndFrame is the "Speech and Handwriting Recognition" part of Microsoft Office.
There is a bug in Microsoft Office that will give you a message saying CiceroUIWndFrame not responding when you try and log off or shut down your computer. To fix this error you need to remove the Speech and Handwriting Recognition feature from Microsoft Office. Most people will never use this feature to begin with. To do so, do the following:
"Control Panel" "Add/Remove Programs" "Microsoft Office," click on the "Change" button browse to "Office Shared Features," "Alternative User Input," and select for Speech and Handwriting Recognition (both) "Not available" from the drop-down box.
Perform the change and the CiceroUIWndFrame messages disappear.
svchost.exe should not be disabled. It is required for essential applications to work properly. But there are trojans and virus that will install itself and use the name svchost.exe.
Determining whether svchost.exe is a virus or a legitimate Windows process depends on the directory location it executes or runs from.
I would suggest that you visit the HijackThis group here on Dell's forum. There you can get expert help to determine if your computer is running slow because of trojans or virus.
