Word 2002 is included with MS Works Suite. Excel and Powerpoint are part of MS Office. Unless you specifically ordered MS Office (such as Office XP) you will not find it on your cd's.

    fubugirl,

Your question was "how did I know I orderd that"?  When you ordered your system, you have to specifically ask for Microsoft Office and what Office programs you want.  If you did not, then you get Works Suite or whatever the promoted applications are.

I would not consider yourself completely out of luck.  Even though Works Suite is a watered down version of Office, it does an impressive job for most users - as far as spreadsheets and databases go.  Word is the same for any version of Office or Works Suite.  I guess it depends on how much of a power user you are.  Be good.

    fubugirl,

It sounds like you purchased your computer with Works Suite which includes Word. PowerPoint and Excel are available in various configurations of Microsoft Office, but not in Works.

Word 2002 is excellent.  It comes with a great spelling and grammar checker.
