Recognizing My Home Network

Hi,
I just upgraded to Windows Vista from Windows XP.  I have a Dell E1505.  I have a small home network.  The 1505 and a Dell Deminsion 8300 and a HP Officejet 7200 printer.  When I turn on my equipment first thing in the morning, My 1505 can't find the network.  The problem works itself out after retrying several times.
Any ideas?  Help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jim

I assume you are connecting wirelessly? If so, it may take a short while to find the network. Have you set it up to always connect automatically to your network?

Thanks for your response.  No, I have a wired connection.  How do you set it up to always connect automattically to my network?
    Thanks, Jim

Connecting automatically doesn't apply if you are connecting via Ethernet. A wired connection will find the network without any intervention on your part.

You mention "turning on all your equipment in the morning". If you are using a router and modem, it may take considerable time while the other computer, the modem and the router all fire up and the network is available. If this is the case, try leaving the modem and router on all the time. I never turn mine off.

If this isn't the problem, then try the "diagnose and repair" option in Control Panel's Network & Sharing Centre.

    Hi Rebel9,
Thanks again for your comments.  I do as you suggest turn off my computer by shutting down from Windows.  My router and modem reemain on.  I will try the second part of your suggestion.  That is, try the "diagnose and repair" option.

    Hi,
When I try to access my XP machine from my VIsta machine.  The program asks for the password of the XP machine.  How can I delete that password and request?
    Thanks, Jim
