I purchased an ex lease Dell Optiplex GX270 for Internet browsing & Emails & would like to know if I have selected the correct drivers to install as hard drive has been formated . Will replace Cd burner as I would like to view Dvd's.
1stDell Assert utility
2nd Chip set [the only one so I know it's right ]
3rd 82865G Graphics controller
3rd 845G/GL integrated video [Do I install both ?]
4th Intel driver Gibabit lom [ this is Ethernet I hope ] & Intel diagnostics utility
Thanks Hunter , but I know how to get them & just want to know which one's to install as no use installing drivers I do not need . It is mainly the Video drivers has two listed for my model a 82865G Graphics controller [Optional & matches the no's on my spec's ] & a 845G/GL integrated Video [Recommended ] & if the Intel Driver Gibabit Lom is the Ethernet driver ?
I am a learner & stuffed up my last install on my Optiplex GX280 but the GX270 looks a little easier .
You need to find out which specific graphics chip is in your system.
It should be mentioned in Device Manager?
Alternatively... download a couple of (free) SysInfo (System Information) programs :emotion-55: The better ones will tell you all you'll ever need to know about the specific hardware/components in your system. Some even list the software, and driver versions too!
There are any number of 'em available - most of which you'll find on this Major Geeks page. I recommend choosing ones with the latest release dates, since those are obviously the ones which are still being developed/updated. Examples include: Belarc Advisor, Auslogics System Information, HWiNFO32, SIV, SIW, etc etc.
Some of them don't even need installing (SIV and SIW are two I believe?)! Just download them, and run them.
BTW: The Intel Gigabit xxx IS the ethernet controller/driver :emotion-5:
