Having children and DVD's I thought I would copy my DVD's to create a safe copy using Sonic Record Now. But to my surprise most of my DVD's are protected and can not be copied. Surely there must be a way to copy them can anyone provide me with any assistance to over come this problem.
Thank you for your comments I did not know and don't believe copying your own DVD's is classed as "illegal copying" all I wanted to do was to copy my own DVD's as a backup , as the kids can be quite ruff and have damaged some already which I can't play anymore.

In the US, you are allowed to make an archival copy of something you own, but possessing/using software or hardware to copy copyrighted DVDs is illegal…
One law says you can another says you can't and my head is spinning!
Making backups for personal use of DVDs that you own is an example of "Fair Use" under United States copyright law.
"The Digital Millenium Copyright Act of 1998 didn't revoke the concept of fair-use rights but prohibited the circumvention of copy protection. This made it virtually impossible to excercise our fair use rights."
....and I better stop there before I start ranting. :smileymad:
This post was taken from the pages of the March 2005 issue of MaximumPC magazine and is a legal example of our fair use rights that haven't been taken away from us yet.
