I'm having the exact same problem with my XPS M1530 and like you, have not been able to find any solution on the web.  I tried looking last week in this forum, but it was undergoing updates and you couldn't post anything. 

I can open the first attachment fine, but when I go to open the second attachment Windows Mail freezes, says it has encountered a problem and closes the program.  My problem started about 6 weeks ago.  It doesn't matter what type of attachment I have either - .wav, .jpg, .pfd.  I can open multiple emails, just not multiple attachments.  I have even tried downloading to Windows Mail Live, but it does exactly the same problem.  

I have had this computer since July and it came with Norton and all was fine until, as I said, 6 weeks ago. 

I too would appreciate any answers if there are any.   Thanks,

I guess it is kind of reassuring that there are others having difficuties that correspond to the problem I am experiencing. I am running a Dell 9200 w/ WinXP SP3 at home and I use outlook so whenever I go to my Mom's house to diagnose a problem for her there is another hurtle in my unfamiliarity with Vista :emotion-43:

I am still searching the net for a solution to this problem and I am going to try to get ahold of Norton tech support. If I do suss out the problem I'll be sure to post it here.

Hello TKDragon, I also have this issue as well and IE7 is doing the very same thing. I have searched high and low and have been unable to locate a remedy to correct this. I believe it to be an IE7 issue that MS has yet to resolve. MS has knowledge of these issues and has suggested some causes and solutions, but none of the MS solutions seems to work. This is very disturbing since many times I have to hard reboot the system due to the lockups. Hope it gets resolved soon. Sorry to hear about this on your mother's system, because it is hard enough for some of us that use computers more than others, and it is a real problem for us.

To update, I went on a live chat with Norton thru my computer at home. They wanted to establish a remote connection to check some setting in the anitvirus and maybe resolve it. As I said, I was at my own system - not my Mom's - so I was unable to go further.

If you feel adventurous, perhaps you can establish a live chat with Norton and see if they can solve you problem. If you do and they do... please post.

Open up your Norton protection center, click on Help and Support in the top right hand side which will bring up the help and support dialog. Click on the "Click here" in the support resoources. At the bottom of the page is a "Contact us". Select that and a dialog will pop up with a LIVE CHAT option. When you select that you will go in a cue to "talk" to a support agent.

My Mother hasn't mentioned any problem with IE7 so I'm not sure if we are having the exact same problem. It almost sounds to me like yours may be deeper into the system since the enitre OS is locking up. Vista is supposed to section off apps from the core more and the app crash is not supposed to effect the stability of the core components. Hopefully - if there are enough users who are expereicing your difficulties - Microsoft will attend you the problem. As for my mother... the problem is more of an extreme annoyance, not a showstopper.
