Windows Search "Pop-up"

When my PC is on and left unattended the Windows Search feature automatically opens. This seems to happen sporadically; I have not been able to detect a pattern. This has happened since I received my Dell Dimension and set it up. On 2 different occasions the calculator feature has opened. I have up-to-date Windows service packs, Norton Internet Security, Adware, Spybot, and Windows defender running on my PC. I am using Zone Alarm and a router fire wall. Is there a setting that can be causing the search function to automatically initialize? Could this be a virus or spy ware despite all the precautions I've taken?

    Hello spudgie

    Well, that`s a new one.:smileyhappy:

Have a look in msconfig and disable EVERYTHING which does not need to run at startup.
    Start/Run and type in
    msconfig
    OK
    Startup Tab
Keep the page open then go to link below. It will tell you what all the entries are and whether you can disable them or not.  It will also identify any nasties

Read the Key at foot of page, then click on "Here" at top. Use the Search box to check all your entries
